Trauma & PTSD-Related Use

Trauma and PTSD frequently underlie substance use disorders, and untreated trauma is one of the strongest predictors of relapse. The session covers integrated trauma-informed care models, EMDR and cognitive-processing therapy delivered concurrently with MAT, the role of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) as upstream risk, and emerging neurobiological frameworks linking PTSD circuitry to relapse vulnerability. Discussion includes the COMPASS-PTSD/SUD framework, prolonged-exposure therapy for veterans, MDMA-assisted PTSD trial readouts post-Lykos CRL, and the workforce implications of training every addiction clinician in trauma response. Implementation models from the VA, community mental health centres and integrated primary care anchor the practical sessions.
