Naloxone & Overdose Prevention
Naloxone distribution and overdose-prevention strategies have evolved with OTC nasal naloxone approval, persistent fentanyl supply and rising xylazine adulteration. The session covers community naloxone programmes, OTC Narcan and Kloxxado deployment, school and workplace naloxone access, post-overdose engagement protocols (the Brockton, Quincy and Boston models), drug-checking services and fentanyl test strips, and harm-reduction adaptations to the xylazine-laced supply requiring wound care. Discussion addresses the layperson-administered naloxone evidence base, the Good Samaritan law landscape, equity in distribution across rural and urban settings, and the financial and policy levers for sustained funding.
