Tobacco & Nicotine Cessation

Tobacco remains the deadliest substance use disorder globally with around eight million annual deaths. The session covers varenicline and bupropion, nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patch, lozenge, spray, inhaler), e-cigarette dependence including EVALI cases, cessation in pregnancy and in psychiatric populations, the EAGLES trial safety profile, and the rising prevalence of synthetic-nicotine and disposable e-cigarettes among youth. Discussion includes Tobacco 21 implementation outcomes, flavour bans across US states, EU Tobacco Products Directive revision, and the integration of cessation pharmacotherapy into oncology, cardiology and behavioural-health clinics where treatment uptake remains far below the evidence-based benchmark.
