Spirituality & Recovery
Spiritual and meaning-making frameworks shape many recovery pathways and remain controversial in evidence-based discussion. The session covers 12-step programme outcomes and the AA effectiveness meta-analyses, secular alternatives (SMART Recovery, LifeRing, Recovery Dharma, Women for Sobriety), religious-based programmes including Celebrate Recovery, the neurobiology of meaning-making in recovery, spirituality assessment instruments, and the clinical integration of spirituality without imposing it. Discussion addresses spirituality in psychedelic-assisted therapy, secular vs religious recovery community outcomes, spirituality in adolescent recovery, the chaplain role in inpatient addiction services, and the international comparison of recovery-community frameworks.
